For fun I asked my awesome Street Team (Alex Rosa’s Agents) if they had any questions for me since I haven’t done a personal post in awhile, in case anyone’s curious to know a little more 🙂
Here are the questions they asked when I left it up to my awesome team …
Are you currently working on anything? A new book maybe?
I am! My next book project will officially be the sequel to Fahrenheit! *eep* I’m really excited to deliver Garret Summers story in book 2 and I think it’s about time I told it 😉 Expect a super sexy novel about the bad boy (Garret) trying to be the good guy after falling in love with his best friend and then losing her to another guy. On his journey to get over his best friend Garrett gets himself into a mess with a girl he can’t stop thinking about from the one club he’s not supposed to go to.
Did you learn all your design/photoshop skills in some course or was it a hobby you learned yourself?
I’m completely self taught 🙂 I was lucky enough to grow up in a computer savvy home since my dad is a computer programmer. I got my dad’s old computer at a young age and I’ve always been drawn to the creative side of things. During the boom of the internet in the 90’s everyone was creating their own websites using geocities/yahoo (yeah, don’t ask), and I wanted to be able to design and create things too! During this time I taught myself a bit of photoshop and html code to entertain myself on the internet. Really, it’s not much different than me today 😉 Back then I usually borrowed my dad’s technical computer books on photoshop or html, and also used the internet to teach me too 🙂 I still teach myself new techniques all the time. You tube is the most helpful nowadays.
Do you only do your graphic designing with photoshop, or do you use other programs too?
I am an avid Photoshop user (self proclaimed photoshop nerd *wut*wut*), and when in a bind and away from my laptop I use Pixlr, an online photo editor that operates like Photoshop, but Pixlr also has an Express version that has (beginner) easy to use features. I recommend this site when friends are looking for a less expensive (free) option.
Do you do your own formatting for your ebooks?
I do. I actually really enjoy the meticulousness of formatting after spending a long time in the editing cave. haha, I’m a weirdo. I like formatting and graphic design so much I started a freelance business called Wednesday Designs, working with indie authors and small businesses.
Worst tinder date ever?
I’m really lucky in the sense that I’ve never had a super disastrous tinder date. *knocks-on-wood* but I have had a date once that when he dropped me off at my car and said, “Alex, ya know how you wanted us to be honest with one another?” I knew something was off. It was already a pretty lame date. This dude kept looking anywhere but my face (that includes other girls). I replied with a leery, “yeah?”. Without missing a beat he said, “I don’t think we’re on the same page romantically”. At first I was really annoyed and said, “Yeah, you’re right,” before slamming his car door in his face, but as he drove away I couldn’t help but start laughing hysterically. My pride made me defensive because he was a jerk, but he was right, we were not on the same page at all and I did not want to see him again. I should have thanked him for his jerk-ness … just kidding.
Also, not a date, but one of the worst things I’ve ever been messaged on Tinder was, “I want to wear your thighs as earmuffs” which is always a story I like to tell at parties when people ask me how my dating life is going.
Is there a genre you would love to write but haven’t?
I have always wanted to write a horror/thriller/suspense novel, and I have every intention of completing this goal. You might have read some of my novel Rules of Twelve online on Wattpad. I have big (epic) plans for that story. And I’ll soon be removing it from online reading. There are currently only 12 chapters up of that project online. I can’t wait to write in these genres someday soon.
Is there a genre you wouldn’t write?
Fantasy, but only because I don’t think I could ever master the skill of creating a fictional world from scratch. Also, science fiction, even though I love reading the genre and watching sci-fi movies. I seriously look up to any author that has the incredible skill of creating worlds or science from the ground up. I’m in awe of them. Some of my favorites? Pierce Brown, Andy Weir, Michael Crichton.
What is the most embarrassing/awkward moment you can remember?
One time I ran into some close friends and their parents at a baseball game, and while getting caught up in the moment my friends dad asked me to hold a beer (1 of about 5) that he bought. I guess I had misheard him and thought he bought me a beer. He watched me drink half of it before telling me it was supposed to be for someone else. I was so embarrassed and felt like such an asshole assuming it was for me–and they weren’t cheap beers either! I still think about this moment and cringe. They played it off like it wasn’t a big deal, but I felt like I was such a rude jerk even if it was on accident. I might have had a crush on the boy too.
What is your favorite food?
My always food favorites are rice, potatoes, pizza and sushi. I’m also currently addicted to poke bowls, pokirrito’s and ramen! Asian foods tend to be my all time favorites, including thai.
Coffee is another favorite, but i guess that’s not a food group.
What place would you like to travel to right now?
I really want to visit Rome and Lisbon. Rome because it’s a city I just know I have to see, although I have been to Italy once before. I went on a family vacation to Venice when I was younger. I just need to lay my eyes on the historical masterpiece that Rome is. The architecture, the art, the everything.
Lisbon because I’m Portuguese and have always wanted to visit. Also, it doesn’t hurt that the oldest bookstore in the world is in Lisbon either.
