Happy paperback release Georgia Clark! <3 This new cover.
I remember when I was strolling the streets of Los Angeles wondering what place I should stop at last before making my drive back down to San Diego. The choice was easy. Of course a trip to LA isn’t complete without visiting my favorite indie bookstore. Book Soup on Sunset Boulevard is by far my favorite. From its floor to ceiling book shelves, incredible selection of old and newer releases, and the most adorably perfect recommendation tabs that line the shelves pretty much everywhere — AND MY all-time favorite part? Signed books. I have an obsession and collect them constantly. I’ve stumbled upon some of my already favorite books signed sitting on Book Soup’s shelves. I saw The Regulars hardback sitting all pretty and pink staring back at me with a shiny “signed by author” sticker and gravitated toward it. I took it off the shelf, read the first chapter, and the rest is history.
I loved this book from start to finish and excited to post about the release of the pretty new paperback. Check out my book review below and enter the GIVEAWAY at the bottom of this post.
[Book Soup ProTip: this store constantly has epic book signings, from celebrities to your favorite author. Keep an eye out on their events calendar. Last signings I went to were Pierce Brown and also Kelly Osbourne. Very cool book shop with a constantly flowing book signing event list.]
A fierce, feisty, and “compulsively delicious” (Redbook) debut with a magical twist about three ordinary, regular young women who suddenly have their fantasies come true…or do they?
Best friends Evie, Krista, and Willow are just trying to make it through their mid-twenties in New York. With average looks and typical quarter-life crises, they’re trying to make it up the corporate ladder, make sense of online dating, and make rent.
Until they come across Pretty, a magic tincture that makes them, well…gorgeous. Like, supermodel gorgeous. And it’s certainly not their fault if the sudden gift of beauty causes unexpected doors to open for them.
But there’s a dark side to Pretty, too, and as the gloss fades for these modern-day Cinderellas, there’s just one question left:
What would you sacrifice to be Pretty?
Wildly irreverent, blatantly sexy, and observed with pitch-perfect wit, The Regulars is a fresh, “twisted, modern-day take on Cinderella.” (InStyle), perfect for fans of Jennifer Close and Kevin Kwan.
4.5 stars. I enjoyed this book more than I expected and was pleasantly surprised by the witty writing and its fresh feel from all the other books I had been reading. I also really liked the smart, charming and hilarious characters. I felt connected with them as they battled their insecurities and their relationships with each other and I rooted for their sex lives. I became invested in the happiness of Evie, Willow, and Krista. This book had a funny way of making me realize how ridiculous me and my friends were in our twenties (and still can be as we come to the end of our reign of being 20-something) while at the same time being insanely relatable in a weird world of where we put importance on all the wrong things, like beauty and perception, and we lose track of what’s really important.
This was a fun, refreshing, easy, and a little weird (but in the best way) kinda read that I took to the beach with me and found I couldn’t put it down. I’d recommend this book if you’re looking for light-hearted, but still sharp and witty, take on life in your 20’s when something as fantastical happens like taking a potion that makes you and your best friends pretty, and then watch the beautifully hilarious, tumultuous, chaos ensue.
